Domestic Violence Shelters in Denver, Colorado

Domestic violence is a pervasive and serious problem affecting thousands of households across the State of Colorado.  The statistics are both sobering and frightening.  In 2024, thirty-eight (38) intimate partners and eight (8) other individuals were victims of homicide related to domestic violence across the state¹.  Denver alone reported 7,660 domestic violence incidents in 2025² .  While Colorado experienced a statistical drop in violent crime in 2024, homicide victims of domestic violence as a proportion of all homicides statewide reached eighteen percent (18%) – the highest proportion in five years.³

  • SafeHouse Denver (website: https://safehouse-denver.org/; 24 hour hotline: 303-318-9989). SafeHouse Denver provides emergency shelter assistance, counseling services, child care and other support services.
  • The Initiative in Denver (website:  https://theinitiativeco.org/; telephone: 303-839-5510).  The Initiative is a fully remote victim advocacy organization for individuals experiencing domestic violence.  While it does not have emergency shelter services, the organization assists victims with relocation support services, referrals for legal help, and direct financial assistance.
  • Family Tree Roots of Courage (website: https://www.thefamilytree.org/domestic-violence-emergency-shelter; 24 hour hotline: 303-420-6752).  Roots of Courage self-describes on the website as “a confidential, residential facility for survivors of domestic violence and those with children. When in shelter, we aim to keep survivors safe by providing advocacy, safety planning, community resources, health care and other supportive services for children and their parents.”
  • Sacred Heart House of Denver (website: https://sacredhearthouse.com/; telephone: 303-296-6686). Sacred Heart House aims to help single women and single mothers with children experiencing homelessness – including those who are victims of domestic violence and may have quickly left their homes for safety reasons.  The organization does this by providing temporary housing, support services, job training and placement, and other services as well.
  • The Rose Andom Center (website: https://roseandomcenter.org/domestic-violence-survivor-services/; telephone: 720-337-4400).  The Rose Andom Center has a walk-in service that helps domestic violence survivors with emergency shelter placement, crisis planning, legal assistance and advocacy, basic needs support and other services.
